Lake Norman Yacht Club

Highlander Fleet 27

Lake Norman Yacht Club (LNYC) has a rich history dating back to 1961 when it was incorporated with 25 charter members. The Club is located on a 25.5-acre site surrounding a sheltered cove adjacent to a large expanse of Lake Norman. The Club purchased the grounds from Duke Power Company in 1986 to ensure its longevity at a reasonable cost to its membership. LNYC is a family-oriented club that promotes sailboat racing with a range of active fleets, including cruisers, multihull, and one-design regattas. The club hosts several regattas open to all sailors and has a national reputation for organizing and conducting well-managed races. Its safety record is excellent, and the club owns several radio-equipped powerboats specifically for race management.

LNYC offers much more than just racing, with activities such as dinner after Saturday races and many of its approximately 200 families camping regularly at the Club. The Junior Program is a model in the Southeast and involves approximately 50 youth aged 8-18. LNYC encourages junior participation in SAYRA and US Sailing events as well as participation in the ISSA high school sailing program. The Club also organizes an intensive sailing experience during a week of Sailing Camp in June, which is also open to adults. The Club’s grounds boast two ramps, several floating docks, 68 wet slips, and a 2-ton boat hoist giving most of its fleets the ability to host invitational regattas.
